The Bundesbank issued a statement saying finance minister Hans Eichel and Axel Weber, president of the Bundesbank, considered the euro "a unique success story and an important step in securing the future of Europe". Bundesbank spokesman Wolfgang Moerke said: "Weber rules out failure of monetary union. He will not participate in such an absurd discussion."
