AT LEAST 12,000 bags are going missing in air transit every day, according to research published by the Association of European Airlines.
More than 1m items of luggage were lost by 24 European scheduled airlines between April and June this year. The worst offender was the Dutch national carrier KLM, which lost 17 bags for every 1,000 passengers carried. British Airways was the third worst offender, managing to lose 179,683 suitcases — 15.6 per 1,000 customers. Turkish Airlines came out best, mislaying only 14,746 luggage items, or four per 1,000 passengers, in the same period."
