"EU moves swiftly on Katrina aid request
EU emergency aid for the victims of hurricane Katrina has begun arriving in the US.
Less than 24 hours after Washington placed an official request for emergency assistance, planes carrying European aid and expertise have started landing in airports across the south west US.
The US request came on Sunday morning, and included a list of vitally needed aid materiel, such as generators, water pumps, ready to eat meals and tents.
The list was quickly distributed to EU capitals in order to see which member states would be able to respond to particular requests, said an European Commission spokeswoman."
