Hungarian Post's five-year strategy contains no plans for privatization

The five-year strategic plan of the state-owned Hungarian Postal Services, accepted recently by the government, does not contain any plans for privatization, CEO Pal Szabo told reporters on Thursday
"The state has no plans to privatize the Postal Services on a strategic horizon of five years," Szabo said. "The problem of the Post is not whether it is state-or privately owned, but that it is able to restructure itself in order to remain competitive after the postal market is liberalized in 2009," he added. In 2005-2006, the main focus of the company will be avoiding market losses, and at the same time expanding to new markets. In order to maintain its overwhelming dominance among traditional postal services, the firm has stepped up its marketing activities and invested in quality improvements, while also developing new financial and logistics services.
