Brussels has granted Macedonia an EU candidate status. Nothing can impede the EU enlargement – neither a constitutional crisis, nor the recent rejection of the constitution by France and the Netherlands, nor a budget crisis.
On Wednesday, the European Commission (EC) granted an EU candidate status to Macedonia; Turkey and Croatia started EU membership talks on October 3, whereas Bulgaria and Romania are to join the EU on January 1, 2007. The EU executive body does not conceal plans to include all the Balkans – Albania, Bosnia, Serbia and even Kosovo, after it has received a final status. Only Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus have been left aside. "
