"Dutch sound death knell for EU constitution
Austria’s hopes of breathing new life into the European constitution hit a major snag on Wednesday when the Dutch foreign minister called the treaty “dead”.
Ben Bot, meeting his Austrian counterpart Ursula Plassnik in The Hague, told reporters “the European constitution is dead for the Netherlands”.
Bot’s comments come just two days after Austrian Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel, the current EU president, insisted that the constitution was not dead but “in the middle of ratification”."
