Germany scores poorly in EU jobless rankings

LUXEMBOURG - Figures released Friday by the E.U. statistics body Eurostat show that while the average unemployment rate for the 25 member states fell slightly over the 12-month period to November 2005, there is still a huge divide between countries posting the best and worst job figures, with Germany coming fourth from last. Overall E.U. unemployment rates averaged 8.5 per cent in November, an improvement on the 9 per cent average the same month of 2004. At the top end of the scale, Ireland posted the lowest unemployment rate at 4.3 per cent followed closely by Denmark at 4.5 per cent. The Netherlands ranked third with 4.7 per cent.
