Danes to take European Union Commission to court over chemical
COPENHAGEN: Denmark will take the European Commission to court in a move to forbid use of the brominated flame retardant known as Deca-BDE in electronics products, the Danish environment minister has said. Environment Minister Connie Hedegaard yesterday said it was unacceptable that the Commission was planning to exempt Deca-BDE from a general ban on toxic chemicals when alternative compounds existed. ''It's sad that we have to take legal action but there is no other way out and we will call on support from other member states and the European Parliament,'' Hedegaard said in a statement.
