Cruise passenger arrivals up by 10% in 2005

“A total of 327 vessels carrying 320,263 passengers, the majority of whom were Italian, German and Spanish tourists called at Grand Harbour in 2005 – an increase of almost 10 per cent on the figures for 2004,” Minister Censu Galea said yesterday.

Speaking during a visit to the Passenger Terminal in Valletta, the Competitiveness and Communication Minister said that the fact that this increase in passengers resulted from a slightly fewer number of cruise liners – seven – “confirms the trend that larger and newer vessels are calling to the island. Provisional figures for 2006 look very positive and last year’s growth trend is set to continue”.
