Egypt and Germany working for peaceful end to ME disputes

Addressing an international press conference following their talks in Berlin yesterday, President Hosni Mubarak and Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Egypt and Germany were cooperating to help resolve Midesat disputes through peaceful means in order to preserve security and stability in the region. President Mubarak said that he extended an official invitation to Chancellor Merkel to visit Egypt in order to to continue their Berlin talks and consultations on regional and international issues of bilateral interest, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported. Describing President Mubarak as "a dear friend to Germany for many years", Chancellor Merkel said that she and the Egyptian leader exchanged views on several regional issues of bilateral concern. "We had frank talks on bilateral ties, the situation in the Middle East and the Palestinian territories, the ME peacemaking process, the Palestinian-Israeli relations, the situation in Iraq, and ties between the Islamic world and the West," she said.
Merkel said that Germany, which encourages peacemaking between the Palestinians and Israel, expected Hamas, which won the Palestinian polls to cooperate in pushing forward the peace process.
