Online job availability still rising in Europe
LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European companies are increasing their headcount as the economy continues to improve, Web-based job recruiter Monster Worldwide (MNST) said Tuesday.
In its latest survey based on online recruitment Web sites in the U.K., France, Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands, Monster said online job availability across the five countries as a whole had edged higher in March. The Monster Employment Index Europe rose to 117 for March compared with 116 in February. That is the highest level for the index since it started at a base level of 100 in December 2004. Monster Worldwide Europe Chief Executive Peter Dolphin said the uptick in recruitment intentions was consistent with evidence from the European Commission that the business outlook is improving in the E.U. He pointed in particular to Germany, which saw its second straight rise on the Monster index in March.
"Business confidence appears to be on the rise in Europe's largest economy," Dolphin said.
