CARS: PROMOTOR, EUROPEAN MARKET STOPS

(AGI) - Bologna, May 16 - The European car market had a stop on April, after a positive first quarter it had a 7.3 pct drop. According to Bologna's Promotor centre it was a result due to the so-called 'calendar effect'. Due to Easter holidays April 2006 had two working days less in almost all the European countries (in some countries three). The 7.3 pct drop - according to Promotor - was due to this element if we take into account that a working day is worth around 4.3 pct of the monthly car registrations. If we exclude the so-called calendar-effect, the European market was rising also in April. But April's result has almost annulled the rise in the first quarter that had closed with 4,132,773 car registrations (up 3.2 pct). The first quarter (April included) closes with 5,402,682 car registrations (up 0.6 pct). Promotor says that the positive trend of the car market will continue in the coming months. This trend is compatible with the recover of the European economy. The biggest car market of Europe, the German one, is going well and also the Italian one shows signs of recovery even if the Italian recovery is slower than in the rest of Europe.
