Hungary - PM expects euro in 2011 at the latest

Hungary's re-elected Prime Minister, Ferenc Gyurcsány, has on Saturday announced the details of the government's fiscal adjustment programme, aimed at cutting the bloated budget deficit and said the country could be a member of the euro zone anywhere between mid-2010 and the middle or end of 2011. "I believe an ideal time for euro adoption is between the middle of 2010 and the middle or end of 2011," he told Reuters in an interview. With this he practically acknowledged that the January 2010 euro zone accession target might not be achieved by all means and that a year of delay was probable.
