Israel introduces emergency measures

Israel has introduced emergency measures allowing authorities to shut schools, factories and public institutions in the north of the country. The measures fall short of a full state of emergency. Hizbollah rockets struck deeper into Israel than ever before on Saturday reaching the Sea of Galilee town of Tiberias.

Around twenty towns and villages have been targeted since Wednesday. Four Israelis, including a five-year old child, have been killed and 300 have been hurt by about 700 rockets fired from Lebanon. Israel believes Hizbollah has 10,000 to 12,000 rockets in its arsenal. The Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Shimon Peres says the only thing Israel wants from Lebanon is peace. "So the minute they'll stop it, there is no problem with Israel. We don't want anything from Lebanon - neither land, nor water, nor influence. The only thing we want is to live in peace. If Lebanon can do it, welcome. If not, we have to defend ourselves and we shall do so."
