Irish support (77%) for EU highest in Europe
Ireland support for EU membership and its benefits is the highest in Europe, according to a new poll. Today’s latest “Eurobarometer” from the European Commission records that 77% of Irish people believe EU membership is a good thing. The figures compare with an EU average of 55%. A separate poll question asked whether people felt membership had benefited the country. Again, Irish support for the EU topped the poll, with 87% agreeing that EU membership had benefited the country.
