Rome, August 11 - Premier Romano Prodi was buoyed on Friday by growth figures which put the Italian economy on track for its best performance in five years . National statistics bureau Istat issued preliminary data showing Italian GDP for the second quarter up 0.5% over the previous quarter and up 1.5% over the same period last year .
Istat also revised its figures for the first quarter upwards, saying GDP rose 0.7% instead of 0.6% over the last three months of 2005 and increased 1.7% instead of 1.6% against the first quarter of 2005 .
