Netherlands No. 1 for aid
he Washington-based Center for Global Development says the Netherlands does more than any other rich nation to assist developing countries.The think tank released a report, the Commitment to Development Index, ranking the Netherlands first in terms of investment, aid and working to decrease the emission of greenhouse gasses, the BBC reported Sunday. However, the center said all nations on the list, which included Britain in 12th place and Canada in 10th, showed room for improvement.
Japan was ranked last on the index, which cited the country's low amount of foreign aid and high amounts of obstacles for migrants and imports from poorer countries. The United States, the CGB said, gave the largest amount of aid to developing countries, but the percentage was the smallest when compared to the size of the country's economy. The United States was also criticized by the report for using purchase of American products as a condition for aid.
