France wants a clearer mandate for the expanded UN force
European governments are mixed in their support for an enhanced United Nations mission in Lebanon.

The Italian government has agreed to send troops - possibly as many as 3,000.

France has been defending its decision to offer only 200 more troops, saying it wants a clearer mandate.

Germany has ruled out sending ground troops but has said a naval group to patrol the coast might be possible.
