PRODI, ITALY-FRANCE- GERMANY FOR NEW EUROPEAN POLITICS
We must get past prejudices and go towards new goals and, if we want to progress, we must do it by strengthening the relationship between France and Germany and ourselves. We have this large responsibility for the creation of new European politics." These were the words of Prime Minister Romano Prodi to a delegation of European parliamentarians, led by the president of the foreign committees of the European Parliament, Elmar Brok, who were welcomed to the courtyard of Palazzo Chigi this morning. "The European Union must earn a new place in world history", Prodi said, "this is why we must all take a step forward, beginning with strong cooperation between Italy, France and Germany. We can demonstrate that we work together for peace." An international cooperation which could begin from the intervention decided on in order to guarantee peace between Lebanon and Israel, and, more in general, in the Mediterranean: "a goal for which also Germany involved." According to the president of the European Parliament foreign committees, Elmar Brok, who stressed that the strong commitment by Prime Minister Romano Prodi in the solution of the crisis in Lebanon, "I am proud of having received Prodi here", Brok said, "and I cannot but stress his commitment for peace in Lebanon. Because he is the one who pushed to find a solution." In the courtyard of Palazzo Chigi, decorated for the occasion, it was also possible to listen to a German band from Paderborn which played six traditional German songs.
