U.S. Military Deaths in Iraq Hit 2,666, Europeans 263, and more than 8000 civilian deaths this year alone

As of Friday, Sept. 8, 2006, at least 2,666 members of the U.S. military have died since the US invasion of Iraq in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The war was started unilaterally by the US on the premises that there were weapons of mass destruction and a link between the September 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade center. Both reasons given by the Bush Administration have now been proven to be incorrect. The recent casualty figure includes seven military civilians. At least 2,119 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's numbers. Latest 09/08/06 DoD Identifies Army Casualties: Sgt. Jason L. Merrill, 22, of Mesa, Ariz. and Pvt. Edwin A. Andino II, 23, of Culpeper, Va. died on Sep. 3 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle during combat operations.
