Germany sending 2000 troops to Lebanon

According to "dpa," Germany is likely to send more than 2000 soldiers to South Lebanon, as a part of the United Nation's "UNIFIL"-troops. The final decision in this matter will be made this Monday by the German parliament.

The troops will take command of the United Nation´s naval forces and help secure the Lebanese Sea. The main goal will be the prevention of smuggling of arms. According to chancellor Angela Merkel, the troops will not take part in any ground combat action because of Germany´s history.
