Swiss investigator into alleged CIA secret prisons in Europe wants to visit Guantanamo

The head of a European investigation into alleged CIA secret prisons and flights in Europe wants to visit the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and speak to detainees there, he said Tuesday. Swiss senator Dick Marty, in charge of a Council of Europe probe into the issue, said he hopes to have contact with 14 inmates who, according to U.S. President George W. Bush, were recently transferred to Guantanamo from CIA-operated secret prisons overseas.

Marty, who wants to go to Guantanamo with U.N. torture expert Manfred Nowak, said he hopes the United States will agree to the visit. He did not specify a date, according to a statement.
