Ahold to Unveil New Strategic Plan - by TOBY STERLING

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands — Under pressure from shareholders to break up the company into three parts, Royal Ahold NV was to unveil a new strategic plan for the company's future on Monday. Ahold, one of the world's largest foods companies by sales, operates the Stop & Shop, Giant, and Tops chains in the United States, where it has more than two-thirds of its sales. It also operates U.S. Foodservice, which competes with the much larger Sysco Corp. in selling bulk food to cafeterias.

Ahold owns several large chains in Europe, including its highly profitable flagship supermarket, Albert Heijn, which is dominant in the Netherlands.

The strategy announcement is expected to detail plans to revamp the company's U.S. stores, aimed at improving sales and margins. That could involve price cuts, accompanied by a marketing campaign to boost private label sales, similar to the revival plan Ahold carried out at its Albert Heijn supermarkets, analysts said.
