China shipping firms seeking more terminal access in Greece

China's shipping firms are seeking expanded access to the two main Greek seaports, Piraeus and Thessaloniki, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a Greek minister. 'Chinese shipping companies want contracts with Greek ports so they can have their own terminals to distribute Chinese-made goods around the Mediterranean and further afield,' the report quoted Greek economy and finance minister George Alogoskoufis as saying.

Companies such as state-owned China Ocean Shipping (Group) Co (Cosco) are exploring possible investments to expand port facilities in Piraeus, outside Athens, and Thessaloniki in northern Greece.
