Ireland Still a Popular Location for Multinational Pharmaceutical Companies

Being an EU member state, Ireland has benefited in the past from the opportunities that exist for members. This has been a factor in transforming Ireland into one of the more dynamic economies of Western Europe.

Access to the pharmaceutical market in Ireland is governed by EU regulations. Many large pharmaceutical companies have a manufacturing base in Ireland as it is seen as a favourable environment in terms of an educated workforce and providing a 'stepping-stone' into the European Union. During 2004 the Irish government published the Health Bill 2004. This provided for the establishment of the Health Service Executive on a statutory basis from 1st January 2005 and provides for the abolition of the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the other health boards.
