Cypriot wounds

"It was a mixed village, although the two communities were always divided by a river. The Turkish Cypriots owned the sheep, the Greek Cypriots owned the grazing land. They co-operated, there were apparently friendships across this narrow water.

A Turkish Cypriot, he was sitting in cafe in a Greek Cypriot village, yards from where his father was killed, yards from where he was buried. Three of his uncles shared the same fate and the same grave. He had been rather nervously talking to a handful of villagers, with the help of a Greek Cypriot friend and a local woman who spoke some Turkish.
