Iran Cuts Back Gas Pumped to Turkey - by Suleyman Kurt

Iran has cut back on its 27 million cubic meters of natural gas that is pumped every day to Turkey. Iran attributed the reduction to a technical problem, which they claimed stemmed from cold weather at its production facilities. Reducing the amount of natural gas from 27 to 18 million cubic meters last week, Iran reduced the amount this week to as low as 15 million cubic meters.

As a result, the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has increased the amount of gas it was buying from the Blue Stream pipeline to 32 million cubic meters, normally 27 million cubic meters a day, to avoid any problems. Officials said that they were not in dire straits because of the cuts. Energy Minister Hilmi Guler said that an Iranian delegation would come to Ankara in the coming days to prepare a ‘memorandum of agreement’ arranged during Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Tehran the previous week.
