Flyington Orders 6 Airbus Freighters

Airbus unveiled a USD$1 billion order from India's Flyington Freighters on Monday in a deal that underscores robust demand from the subcontinent and lends support to a new freight variant of the Airbus A330 jet. The European planemaker said Hyderabad-based Flyington had ordered six A330-200F cargo planes worth USD$990 million at list prices after placing a similar order with Boeing last year. The order raised questions over whether Airbus had pulled off a coup by poaching the plane order from its arch-rival Boeing but the Indian company said it needed both sets of aircraft as it prepares to start flying this year. "At the moment the Boeing deal is in place," Flyington Managing Director Deepak Parasuraman said.

The Boeing and Airbus planes are scheduled for delivery in 2009, he said.
