Saudi Arabia set to get Eurofighter jets

Saudi Arabia expects delivery soon of 72 Eurofighter Typhoon jets worth around $19.3 billion (euro14.8 billion) from Britain's BAE Systems, the official Saudi Press Agency reported.

Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud was quoted Saturday as saying the state-of-the-art warplanes would be delivered to the kingdom "very soon." The Saudi deal is the first confirmed order for the Eurofighter to come from outside the European Union, Dow Jones Newswires reported. Inside Europe, the plane has been ordered by Britain, Germany, Spain, Italy and Austria.

The aircraft are designed and built by a European consortium comprising BAE, European Aeronautic Defense & Space Co. and a unit of Italy's Finmeccanica SpA.
