France -'Third man' gets a boost from migrants - by Henry Samuel

François Bayrou, the surprise "third man" in French presidential elections, received a further boost to his campaign yesterday when he was warmly received by immigrants in the Paris suburb where riots broke out two years ago. Seine Saint-Denis erupted into violence in autumn 2004 after two teenagers were electrocuted as they hid from police in a sub-station. Nicolas Sarkozy, the Right-wing election front-runner, has not set foot in the area during the campaign, apparently due to security concerns, such is the local anger over his handling of the riots.

But the head of the UDF party was feted yesterday in the area's streets to the chants of "Bayrou, president! Remember us when you're in power."
