31% increase in cosmetic surgery in UK - Wales at heart of cosmetic surgery boom - by Madeleine Brindley

The cosmetic surgery market is undergoing rapid growth as such operations become both more commonplace and more affordable. New clinics have opened around the country and some of the UK's top surgeons are now operating in Wales.

Figures published by The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) reveal there has been a 31% increase in cosmetic surgery in the last year alone across the UK.

Women had 92% of all cosmetic procedures in 2006 (26,469 up from 19,601 in 2005). The top five surgical procedures for women in 2006 were breast augmentation, blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery, liposuction, face/neck lifts and breast reduction. Men had 2,452 cosmetic procedures in 2006. The top five surgical procedures for men in 2006 were: rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty, liposuction, ear correction or otoplasty, and face/neck lifts.
