An overwhelming majority of Europeans want the European Union to take more responsibility for dealing with global threats, but few support combat operations in Afghanistan now or against Iran in the future, according to an opinion poll on Thursday. The annual survey of the German Marshall Fund of the US also showed that 58 per cent of Europeans regarded US leadership in world affairs as "undesirable" and only 36 per cent thought it "desirable".
