Airfares Down as much as 45 percent Compared to 2008 ( Taxes and surcharges still alive and well)

According to airfare cost comparisons by STA Travel, a global travel specialist, airfare prices for travel in the month of May are down as much as 45 percent compared to the same time last year. Airlines are cutting fare prices as they try to fill planes before the peak summer travel season this summer. To entice passengers to travel when it is often a little less convenient, airlines are offering fares that, "really make the customer say 'wow' when they see the final price," said James Bell, vice president of supplier relations and business-to-business sales at STA. "It really is a great time to travel." Note EU-Digest: Taxes and Surcharges on airplane tickets are still alive and well. On a special RT $182.00 Delta ticket from Amsterdam to Boston you eventually end up paying $ 601.00 after taxes and surcharges are included. Nobody, including our so-called "people and business friendly" governments seems to be doing anything about that.
