Qatar begins 'green' fuel commercial Airbus 380 service - by Chris Gray

Qatar Airways was today due to fly the first commercial flight using pioneering gas-to-liquid technology. The airline was due to operate the flight between Gatwick and Doha, where details of the project were due to be announced. Scientists from Qatar Petroleum and Shell, who have been working on the development of gas-to-liquid jet fuel, were expected to host a joint press conference to discuss the potential of the technology for widespread use in aviation.

An Airbus A380 carried out a test flight using a mix of conventional fuel and gas-to-liquid fuel last year, but Qatar claims today’s flight is the first commercial operation. Gas to liquid fuel is cleaner than conventional get fuel because it contains no sulphur.
