Europe struggles as snow continues

Hundreds of people across Europe have been left stranded at airports or cut off in their own homes as heavy snow and freezing conditions continue to adversely affect transportation.

In Germany snowdrifts of up to two meters high meant many villages were "left to their own devices", police told the AFP news agency on Sunday.

Nearly 100 flights were cancelled at Frankfurt airport, Europe's third busiest, while more than 80 flights were cancelled at Heathrow airport in London.

Treacherous conditions have also disrupted Eurostar rail services between Britain and France, with only two out of three trains able to run under the Channel.
