The transactions included $650 million to overhaul Turkish tanks, the purchase of $190 million worth of modern drones and $140 million to equip 16 fighter planes with the advanced Israeli electronic and intelligence devices. In practical terms, the changed relationship means Israel will be reluctant to offer Turkey advanced technologies, which it fears will be "shared" eventually with Syria and Iran.

It was not an easy decision for the Israeli ministry of defence, but it became necessary once the Turkish military abandoned its role as "guardian" of Kemal Ataturk's secular revolution for Recep Tayyip Erdogan's Islamic-oriented policies.
