The benefits of immigration - Turkish businessman among Holland’s richest 500

Celal Oruç, a Turkish businessman based in the Netherlands with interests in a variety of sectors, including energy, finance, telecommunications and real estate, has been listed as one of the country’s 500 richest individuals by Quote magazine.

The magazine announced that Oruç was the 316th richest person in the Netherlands with a personal fortune of 85 million euros as of 2009, marking an increase of 19.7 percent in his wealth compared to the previous year. Oruç, born in 1960, is the son of a Turkish couple who had migrated to the Netherlands as workers. He has been living in the Netherlands for the past 25 years.

Speaking to the Anatolia news agency on Friday, Oruç said his success was a result of tenacity and determination. “There is a perception in [Dutch] society that immigrants are a burden. We are not a burden. Instead, we make great contributions to society,” he stated.

Note EU-Digest: Geert Wilders, anti-immigration proponent and Muslim hater, whose party supports the present minority Dutch Government, would be well advised to study some of the available statistics related to the many contributions provided by immigrants to the overall Dutch economy.
