Bulgarian PM spells out vision for EU policy on ‘Arab Spring’ -

A new European Union policy on the potential process of transition in North Africa and Middle East should be based on three principles – an individual approach, on the results produced and that the people of those countries themselves are in the lead, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boiko Borissov told an international conference in Sofia on May 5 2011.

Borissov was speaking at the opening of the Sofia Platform, a two-day conference on the theme of Central and Eastern Europe’s transition and change in the Middle East. The conference brings together veterans of transition from communist regimes, with people currently involved in the striving for change in the Arab world.

The two-day conference opened with a minute of silence in honour of the victims who had died during peaceful protests in the region.
