Bombing in Syria capital kills as many as 26 and injures dozens - Sarkozy calls for Bashar Assad to go - by Alexandra Zavis and Rima Marrouch

A bomb rocked the Syrian capital Friday, killing as many as 26 people, injuring dozens and leaving pools of blood, shards of glass and body parts in the streets, state media reported.

It was the second major attack in Damascus in as many weeks, the latest grim twist in a conflict that the United Nations says has left more than 5,000 people dead since March.

Note EU-Digest: French President Nicolas Sarkozy issued a new call Tuesday for Syrian President Bashar Assad to step down because of massacres by his regime, and an Arab League official said it will discuss withdrawing an observer mission to the country due to the ongoing bloodshed.
