The Netherlands is 10th best place to be a mum

According to the 13th annual ' report by the Foundation, the Netherlands is the 10th best place in the world to be a mother. The foundation compares and contrasts the well-being of mothers and children in 165 countries across the globe.

The Netherlands lost points due to its poor pregnancy and parental leave policies. The Netherlands shares in its 10th spot with the United Kingdom.

The Netherlands grants women a maximum of 16 weeks of paid pregnancy leave; many European countries have far more generous pregnancy furlough policies. In contrast to most other European countries, the Dutch government does not regulate parental leave policies but leaves that to be regulated through collective labour agreements.

Norway is the best place to live if you're planning on being a mum, followed by Iceland and Sweden. The worst places to be a mother are Afghanistan and Niger. The USA is ranked 25th on the list.
