Civitatis International looks at "The European Dream"

”World peace cannot be safeguarded without the making of creative efforts” … ”The contribution which an organised and living Europe can bring to civilization is indispensable to the maintenance of peaceful relations.”…”Europe will not be made all at once, or according to a single plan.”
Robert Schuman, Foreign Minister of France, The Schuman Declaration May 9th 1950.

The European Dream Research Programme at Civitatis International is directly inspired by the ideals of the founding fathers of the European Community, in particular those ideals of the Schuman Declaration expressed above. The Civitatis European Dream programme promotes the continuance of, and return to, these ideals across Europe; specifically, the union of civilizations, through economic integration for the aim of lasting peace. Civitatis encourages EU policymakers, through the publication and promotion of our research, to revisit the original ideals and intentions of the founding fathers of the European Community.

The Civitatis International European Dream and Union of Civilizations projects seek to discern how the EU and accession states can mutually benefit economically from a new combined economic dynamism and new universal values derived from the commonalties of the cultures, histories and aspirations of peoples from a viewpoint of how the politics of possibility for the present and future can and should transcend the politics of the past. Furthermore, how the continuance and enlargement of the “common European home” is essential to increasing the wellbeing and happiness of the five hundred million people of the European Union.

Impressed by Jeremy Rifkin’s speech to the World Political Forum about his book on the subject, The World Political Forum convened the European Dream Seminar in Budapest with a Civitatis International delegation participating. The assembled former heads of state, at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Hungary, discussed how the European Union is a pilot model for the world of a postmodern working peace system that is being keenly observed by other governments and regions around the world. That conference and the clear need to build a positive vision for the people of Europe was the inspiration to establish the European Dream Programme at Civitatis International.
