The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg has found that Macedonia violated the European Convention on Human Rights when it detained Khaled el-Masri, a German citizen, tortured him and handed him over to the United States authorities. The Court awarded el-Masri €60,000 in compensation for his ordeal.
