International Sea Ports: Port of Miami imoroving its infrastructure

Port of Miami
The drilling of an  euro 770 million  ( US$1b)  tunnel connecting the Port of Miami - destination point for many European cruise passengers - with nearby expressways is finished, but it won't open to traffic until next year.

Drilling of the tunnel began ion Watson Island off downtown Miami in November 2011 and reached the port July 31.

The excavation activities ended this week and workers will now begin laying pavement for roads inside the tunnel.

The new tunnel will give cargo trucks a direct route to the port from nearby expressways such as Interstate 95 which presently has to travel through congested downtown Miami streets.

The Port of Miami  tunnel is scheduled to open to traffic in May 2014.
