Britain: BPA welcomes launch of Small Ports Recovery Scheme

The BPA welcomed the launch of the Department for Transport’s new Small Ports Recovery Scheme, which is designed to assist smaller ports with the repair costs resulting from damage caused by the weather over the winter.

The £2 million pot of funding will help smaller ports in England. The Ports and Shipping Minister, Stephen Hammond MP, announced the scheme at the BPA’s Annual Lunch last week and today the DfT and the BPA jointly opened the application window. The DfT are keen that a range of smaller ports, particularly fishing and leisure harbours utilize this fund.

The BPA is closely involved and will be handling the applications although the scheme is open to all eligible ports, whether they are existing BPA members or not. The BPA will also appoint an expert but independent panel to assess the applications. The panel will then make recommendations to the DfT and the Minister will make the final decision on funding decisions.
